Learn the real “Singapore Story” when you visit the Singapore Discovery Centre.
Singapore Discovery Centre Highlights
The Singapore Discovery Centre is an interactive museum that takes its visitors through the history, culture and future of the island of Singapore. It is full of modern, hands-on exhibits that really get you involved in learning about this exciting city.
Exhibits to See
All of the exhibits at the Singapore Discovery Centre incorporate a series of games, visual displays, movies or interactive screens, which make them interesting for people of all ages.
In the Gateway exhibit, you’ll encounter MTV-style multimedia clips that cover Singapore’s past. The nearby Contradiction Wall is covered in witty sayings about Singapore.
Spectacle is a massive light and sound show that claims to be the largest multimedia exhibit in the city. It is a huge globe that illuminates with a colorful array of images depicting Singapore as a global, multicultural city.
Another favorite exhibit among visitors is On Location Reporter, a realistic set where wannabe-journalists can try their hand at on-camera reporting in front of a green screen.
iWerks is one of the biggest flat screen theatres in Singapore, showing entirely 3D movies! Cinema-goers can take in films about nature and the occasional Hollywood film shown in 3D, where the images come alive and pop off the screen – so real you might be inclined to reach out and touch them!
The XD Theatre takes movie-going to the next level, using 4D technology that literally brings the audience into the film experience. Visitors experience gusts of wind, loud noises and seats that move and rumble, accelerating to 2G’s! The XD Theatre is really more of an interactive ride than just a movie, as you are taken on a whizz-bang adventurous journey!
The Singapore Discovery Centre, which was originally opened as part of a military installation, also includes a bus tour through the local Singapore Air Force training facility, and has several exhibits that allow visitors to experience military thrills (like shooting high powered machine guns) in a virtual, safe environment.
